Cheese Lane Shot Tower Bristol no 3. in a series
In 1782 plumber William Watts invented a way of making perfectly round lead shot for shotguns. Having gone to bed drunk one night he had a dream of raindrops falling in perfectly round spheres from a great height. He then experimented pouring molten lead through a sieve into water from the tower of St Mary Redcliffe Church. It worked and he extended his own house to build the first shot tower in Redcliffe Bristol. When his house was demolished in the 1960s it was replaced with this 140 foot reinforced concrete shot tower on Cheese Lane.
